EcoJar · last updated 27 August 2026
EcoJar is an independent app built on the open-source orb.farm simulation engine by Max Bittker, used under the MIT License. It is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by the original author.
The original project lives at orb.farm and github.com/MaxBittker/orb.farm. If you want the original, go there — it is free and it is excellent.
What we changed
The original is a web project built for a desktop browser. EcoJar is a rebuilt mobile app around the same simulation core: touch controls and a tool bar sized for a thumb, a species guide, an oxygen history chart, multiple save slots, a tutorial, and a layout that survives phones, tablets and split view. The simulation itself — the part that decides what happens inside the jar — is the original author's work.

Third-party components
EcoJar also uses React Native, Expo and a number of open-source libraries. The complete list of components and their licences is bundled in the app under About → Legal → Third-party licences, so it is available offline and does not depend on this page staying up.
